When I began to work with Pen and Wash, I searched for the smoothest, brightest White surface that I coul find. Bristol Board gave the answer and it is great for illustration projects or prints. However, the acquisition of a Fude has led me to experiment with different papers, including some heavyweights and rough surfaces. Khadi papers have given me some great results and I was recently lucky to find some full sheets of 648gsm Saunders Waterford paper for only £2.50 each which is cheap enough to play around with. I love the way the Fude (A Duke Confucius) bounces on these surfaces to give really interesting lines and it's helped me develop my own individual style. The moral of this story is experiment as often as you can. Nothing changes if we keep doing the same things
Here's some work using these papers.
