Adventures with Pen & Wash sketching

Updated: Jan 20, 2023

My followers on social media will be aware that I’ve been exploring Pen and Wash sketching recently with architectural images that have come out OK. However, everybody does buildings and, for my latest work, I wanted to try something different by using Pen & Wash techniques for a landscape or, more specifically, a seascape of Rhossili Bay, looking out to the Worm’s Head.

I was quite pleased with this. The pen work gives an impression of detail while the simple wash and limited pallet is very effective, adding a freshness to the piece.

Again I have used my new Derwent Inktense watercolours but this was on Arches Cold Pressed, instead of my usual Bristol Board. (I think the brighter Bristol Board may have been better for this but hindsight is a wonderful thing).
